The Proposal
This research is important to the criminal justice field. Having a better understanding of the male police officer identity will help those in the field. This research, to the best of my knowledge, has not been conducted yet but studies on men’s identities, male officers, and the psychological processes of male officers has been conducted. As well as reasearch on how new male recruits respond to stressful situations and how the officer is affected with loss. Participants of this research will include five male officers. All from except two from different departments. The agencies I hope to have participate include; Indiana Borough Police Department, a small rural agency, two Pennsylvania State Troopers; one being from the Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), and one a seasoned Trooper and finally one from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I plan on begining research as soon as these officer’s can be contacted. The methodolgy that will be used and incorporated for this research will be interviews. I plan on interviewing these five officers either face to face or with an phone interview. I predidct that with the questions asked (if asked correctly) I will find similar answers to “What drives the male police officer” and how they identify themselves within their departmen and community. I plan on presenting these findings with an 15 page journal style entry.
